We try to tell our customers all about our products, but sometimes there are questions asked that we hadn’t thought of. Below are some of the more frequently asked questions and the answers. Just click on the question and the answer will drop down. Click again and the answer will go away. Don’t see the answer you need? Please e-mail us and we’ll answer you right away.
We are in many Specialty Food Stores and large Supermarkets, nationally, but it is hard for us to know each of them. Go to our “Where to Buy” page and look through the list for a local market. You can also enter your zip code for the closest retailer. If you know of a retailer that is not listed, please tell us so we can post it for others.
We get this question a lot. Costco alternates their orders, so we can’t predict the next time they will stock our Asiago & Cheddar 22 oz. CheeseCrisps bag. That’s why we now offer it in our Shop pages, all the time! No need to keep waiting; we’re here for you.
Breakage is a challenge for our products. The unique hand-twisted shape, distinctive texture and great taste that characterize our snacks also result in brittle, irregularly shaped products which are extremely vulnerable to rough handling. Our staff exercises great care in handling and packing our products, but once they leave our plant it's very difficult to control their handling. Regrettably, some breakage is to be expected. If you find breakage that you believe is excessive, please contact us and we'll send a refund or replacement product.
We print a "best before" date on the bottom panel of each package. That date is twenty-six weeks from the production date. Because we do not add artificial preservatives or stabilizers, our all-natural products are at their very best during the early months following production. Once opened, they should be consumed or saved in tightly sealed storage containers to preserve freshness. You may freeze our products without harming them.
That happens sometimes. Retailers often select only a few of our offerings. If you have a favorite, you can let your retailer know you want it. If they won’t stock it for you, then just order it from us. Either way, we certainly don’t want to deprive you of your favorite snack!
That’s very possible. We do make our products for some other retailers for their private label brands. While there are some imitators out there, we believe no one makes a CheeseStick or CheeseCrisp quite like we do. So if it matches our quality, looks like us and tastes like us, then…yes, we made it.
We do not use any nuts or nut oils in our products and there are no nuts or nut-based products present in our manufacturing facility.
Seeds are not required to be disclosed as allergens in the United States. However, Canada includes both sesame seeds and mustard seeds as listed allergens requiring disclosure in nutrition facts. Certain of our products contain sesame seeds and/or mustard seeds. While we clean equipment following production of products containing these ingredients, we cannot be absolutely certain that the risk of cross-contamination has been eliminated.
We operate under the supervision of the US Food and Drug Administration. Generally, the New Jersey Department acts on behalf of the FDA and may conduct surprise visits at any time. In addition to government supervision, our quality control and food safety systems are independently audited each year in accordance with SQF 2000 Level II food quality and safety standards. SQF is one of a number of systems of standards which meet the requirements of the Global Food Safety Initiative.
Absolutely! John worked a regular job and baked at night, perfecting his recipe. When he thought it was ready he took the leap and started offering it to stores. The big break came when a famous New York City specialty food store, Balducci's, put in an order. The rest is history!
Generally the answer is yes. While vegan cheeses are available in the marketplace, the predominant enzyme used in the cheese-making process is animal-based rennet. Because we use a range of cheese of both domestic and foreign origin, most of the cheese used in our products will contain rennet.
Yes. However, the level of sugar in our CheeseSticks and CheeseCrisps is laboratory tested at less than one-half gram per serving. This is why the nutrition facts panel displays a quantity of zero grams for sugars. Sugar is used as a catalyst in the fermentation processing which produces the sourdough base for our products. During this process, most of it is consumed by the yeast. This observation does not apply to our SweetSticks, which contain substantial quantities of sugar. In any event we do not make any health claims about sugar content.
